
Headline by the Athelite Australian Emus’ first trip to New Zealand in seven years, there’s plenty of Touch to look forward to in April. Here are some key events to keep an eye out for in the month ahead.
North Queensland Junior State Cup
5 – 7 April
One of the biggest events on the North Queensland annual calendar, the Junior State Cup offers divisions for age groups between 10 and 18 and is open to all junior Touch players from across Queensland. Held at Queens Park and the Townsville Sports Reserve, the event continues to grow year on year.

NSW Year 11/12 Mixed Challenge (Hunter Region)
8 April
The NSW Touch Football Mixed Challenge was introduced to provide students in these age groups the opportunity to participate in an event matching with the under 18s pathway within the School Sport System and Curriculum. The first of three regional events will be contested in April with Wallsend as the host of the Hunter region event.

Opens Trans-Tasman Test Series
25 – 27 April
The biggest rivalry in international Touch, the Athelite Australian Emus return to New Zealand for the first time since 2018 to take on the New Zealand Touch Blacks. A best-of-three series over the ANZAC Day long weekend, Australia and New Zealand will clash in Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Open divisions. The Trans-Tasman trophy currently lies in Australia, with the Emus winning all three divisions at the last event in Brisbane.

NSWTA Junior Regionals
26 – 27 April
The next generation of Touch Footballers are set to take the latest step in their development, as the NSW Touch Association Junior Regionals returns to Mudgee. With Boys and Girls divisions contested in Under 12s, 14s, 16s, and 18s, the prestigious pathway event allows future Touch Football talent to continue their development and announce themselves to the Touch Football world.

NSW Touch All Schools Carnivals
The NSW Touch All Schools Carnival provides opportunities for emerging Touch Football prospects to develop their skills within the school system. Schools and students from differing school systems now have the opportunity to compete against each other. Several carnivals will be held across the state over the upcoming Autumn and Winter months, with finals to be held in September. The following carnival will be held in April:
- Central Western: April 29, Waratah Sports Ground, Orange
