Students from Thomas More College and Cardijn College came together on Wednesday 23 September for South Australia's first-ever All-Abilities Touch Football Carnival, creating a memorable day of inclusion, participation and connection through Touch Football.
The carnival began with a combined skills session, providing students with the opportunity to further develop their Touch Football skills, build confidence and connect with students from another school. Participants then took to the field for a series of games, showcasing outstanding enthusiasm, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day.
The event provided students with an opportunity to put into practice the skills they had been developing through their weekly Touch Football sessions, while continuing to grow their understanding of the game in a fun, supportive and inclusive environment.
More than just a day of competition, the carnival highlighted the positive impact of inclusive sport in schools. Students had the opportunity to represent their school, build new friendships and experience the excitement of game-day competition while being supported every step of the way.
At the conclusion of the carnival, students were presented with participation medals to recognise their effort, commitment and achievements. Their excitement throughout the day reflected the valuable experience the program provided both on and off the field.
Touch Football SA would like to thank the staff and students from Thomas More College and Cardijn College for their support and enthusiasm, as well as the volunteers and referees whose contributions helped make the event possible.
Following the success of the inaugural carnival, there are exciting opportunities to continue growing the All-Abilities Touch Football program across South Australia and provide even more students with the chance to get involved in the game.
The carnival was a fantastic celebration of inclusion, participation and the power of Touch Football to bring people together. Touch Football SA looks forward to building on this momentum and expanding opportunities for all students to experience the benefits of the sport.
