The Katherine Touch Association season wrapped up in style last week, with two down-to-the-wire Grand Finals and a massive display of community spirit.
Featuring both the Women’s and Men’s Opens divisions on Friday evening, the event was well-supported by players, spectators, and the broader community, fostering a strong atmosphere of respect throughout the night. The environment was supportive, family-friendly, and reflective of the strong community culture within the Katherine Touch Football Association.
The success of the finals series was heavily bolstered by the support of the wider Northern Territory Touch Football community. In a true display of regional commitment, match officials made the 300km trip down the Stuart Highway from Darwin to referee in the semi-final and grand final games.
Katherine Touch Association President, Jodie Wild, was incredibly grateful for the inter-city support that elevated the local competition.
“On behalf of Katherine Touch Association, we would love to thank Darwin for coming down to take on the refereeing duties for our Men’s & Women’s Open Competition. It’s always a pleasure having Darwin come down, and our players enjoy having their expertise on the field.”
The grand finals were conducted to an incredibly high standard across both divisions. The quality of play, combined with the respectful behaviour of all participants, made the event enjoyable and professionally rewarding to officiate. The positive engagement from the community further highlighted the value of strong regional competitions and the importance of continued collaboration between the Katherine and Darwin affiliates.
A massive thank you goes out to visiting officials Kieran, Michael, Dom, Chris, and Wayne for their dedication. A crucial local contribution also came from Katherine's own Brett Wild, whose efforts refereeing the Men’s Grand Final allowed the officiating crew to run a seamless team of four on the night.
Touch Football NT (TFNT) and Katherine Touch Association wishes to thank all players, volunteers, referees, and committee members who made this season possible.
