The South West Wolves made history on Friday night, securing their first Men’s Division victory in more than three years during Round 2 of the TFSA League.

The Wolves prevailed 11–8 over the Eastern Stingrays, marking their first win since 2021. The result followed a competitive 6–3 defeat to the Central Scorpions in the opening round.

Recruit Andy van Gilst and first-year player Laine Alexander were outstanding in attack, orchestrating several scoring opportunities as both sides exchanged tries in a fast-paced opening half.

Holding a narrow lead at the interval, the Wolves displayed exceptional defensive discipline in the second period, repelling multiple Stingrays attacks to extend their advantage and close out the contest.

The Stingrays, missing several key personnel, struggled to find fluency in attack despite the efforts of experienced playmakers Stephen Daenke and Adam Bethell, who worked tirelessly to generate momentum.

In the other Men’s Division fixture, the Northern Vipers claimed their first victory of the season with a narrow 6–5 win over the Scorpions.

The Stingrays found greater success in the Mixed Division, where Brodie Clarke produced a standout performance to guide last season’s wooden spooners to a 6–3 victory over the Wolves. Meanwhile, the Vipers continued their strong early-season form with a comprehensive 12–4 triumph against the Scorpions.

In the Women’s Division, a tightly contested clash between the Wolves and Stingrays (both tipped as early premiership contenders) ended in a hard-fought 2–2 draw. The Scorpions recorded their first win of the campaign with a 7–4 result against the Vipers.

Round 3 of the TFSA League season continues tonight from 6:30 pm.
