2025 AMG Hero

Four days of Touch Football action have wrapped up at the 2025 Australian Masters Games (AMG), with Masters-level athletes from all corners of Australia and overseas participating in the 20th edition of the event.

First held in 1987 in Hobart, Tasmania, the AMG returned to Canberra for the first time since 2003, welcoming over 8,400 participants competing in more than fifty different sports across forty-plus venues. The week-long festival of sport, held from 18 to 25 October, is one of Australia’s premier multisport events and once again featured Touch Football as part of its growing program for athletes aged thirty and above.

From Saturday, 18 October to Tuesday, 21 October, Touch Football ACT organised and delivered the Touch Football competition at the Deakin Playing Fields – the primary hub for the sport in Australia’s capital. Masters athletes competed in Women’s, Men’s, and Mixed divisions from 30s through to 65s, with eighteen teams and more than 200 athletes supported by nineteen referees. Showcasing the diversity of the sport, the youngest athlete was aged thirty, while the oldest was aged seventy-one.

The event also celebrated strong international representation, with athletes travelling from afar to be part of the AMG. Papua New Guinea made their debut in the Women’s 30s division, with a mixture of Papua New Guinea residents and Australian locals who were playing Touch Football for the first time. The Singapore Masters took out the Men’s 50s division, while the Galaxy Guardians featured players from New Zealand in their teams as they claimed three divisions across the Men’s and Mixed.
