Coffs Harbour turned on the sunshine for the fourth and final day of the 2025 DoorDash National Youth Championships (NYC), where a vocal crowd of supporters at C.ex Coffs International Stadium witnessed a spectacular showcase of finals featuring Australia’s premier Touch Football youth talent.

A pair of rematches headlined the 18s divisions, with Queensland Representative School Sport (QRSS) aiming to reclaim their titles after narrow defeats last year to NSW Combined Independent Schools (NSWCIS) in the Boys and NSW Combined High Schools (NSWCHS) in the Girls. In another tightly contested final, QRSS proved too strong for NSWCHS in the 18s Girls, winning 4-2, led by a Player of the Final performance from Layne Prince, daughter of NRL legend Scott Prince, who made her national debut for the Athelite Australian Emus at May’s Asia Pacific Youth Touch Cup. Her teammate and captain, Evie Clarkson, was named Player of the Series.

The 18s Boys grand final saved the best match of the tournament for last, with both QRSS and NSWCIS showcasing elite Touch Football in front of a raucous grandstand. After a stunning forty minutes, NSWCIS defended last year’s maiden 18s Boys title with a spirited 7-6 victory, sealed in the final seconds when Taiaroa Lowe crossed following a sharp show-and-go from Isaac Fotu-Moala that split the Queensland defence. NSWCIS captain Logan Toohey was named Player of the Final, while QRSS captain Jontaye Brown received Player of the Series honours.

The 16s divisions were an all-Queensland affair, with the Boys’ final delivering a thriller between the Central Queensland Bulls and the Brisbane Cobras in a back-and-forth battle. Holding a narrow lead late in the match, the Bulls’ Ashley Earnshaw scored on the siren to seal victory for Central Queensland. In the Girls’ final, the South Queensland Sharks defeated the Brisbane Cobras, securing back-to-back titles with a 10-6 win.

The Hunter Western Hornets continued their dominant run in the 14s Boys division, posting twelve tries to the Central Queensland Bulls’ four to retain their crown, while the South Queensland Sharks overpowered the Brisbane Cobras 11-2 to also claim consecutive championships.

In a tense drop-off that came down to a three-on-three showdown, the Hunter Western Hornets edged out the Sydney Scorpions 4-3 to take the New South Wales derby in the 12s Boys decider. The 12s Girls final featured a rematch of last year’s contenders, with the Hunter Western Hornets avenging last year’s defeat to the South Queensland Sharks, three tries to two.

The South Queensland Sharks, however, were awarded the Champion Entity title for their outstanding overall performance at the event, excelling in the pool stages and securing two championships from three grand final appearances.

The final day of the NYC also featured Alliance Grand Finals for the Boys’ and Girls’ 16s and 18s divisions, providing an additional platform for players from every State and Territory to showcase their talent on the national stage. The ACT Raiders secured two titles, overcoming the South Australia Heat in the 18s Girls and the Western Tigers in the 16s Boys, both with commanding scorelines. The Western Tigers struck back in the 16s Girls, defeating the Victoria Storm, while the 18s Boys clash saw opposite ends of the country represented – with the Tasmania Thunder prevailing over the Northern Territory Devils.

In line with Touch Football Australia’s (TFA) new Strategic Plan, we are committed to articulating the talent pathway from the grassroots level through to elite representation. The reintroduction of Alliance Grand Finals reflects this commitment, complemented by the announcement of Australian Merit Teams in the coming days. TFA also acknowledges the efforts of all players and officials who travelled to Coffs Harbour, presenting themselves to our High Performance panel for talent identification and future selection opportunities.

Alongside his appointment in the 18s Boys grand final, Campbell Muir was also awarded the Referees’ Referee Award by his peers to cap off the week. Ellen Macleod and Hayden Drapalski were presented as Female and Male Referees of the Tournament, respectively, while Jessica Loring and Zac Caton took out the Junior equivalent of the honour.

The DoorDash National Youth Championships is proudly supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, alongside City of Coffs Harbour.
