Over the weekend of September 19th–21st, Touch Football WA hosted a successful series of coaching workshops designed to support the growth and development of our coaching community.
The program kicked off on Friday evening with a Foundation Level workshop, led by Australian and NSW Mixed Open coach Jason Martin. Jason shared his expertise with new and emerging coaches, providing them with the tools and confidence to deliver fun, engaging, and effective sessions.
On Saturday morning, Jason returned to deliver a Talent Level workshop for more experienced coaches. This session went beyond drills and game play, delving into the bigger picture of what makes a coach truly effective. Coaches explored topics such as goal setting, how to structure and align short- and long-term objectives for teams, and team selection processes, ensuring fairness, clarity, and balance when making those critical decisions. Jason also led an important discussion on the qualities that separate a good coach from a great coach, encouraging participants to reflect on their own coaching philosophies, values, and impact both on and off the field.
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday morning, with Jason working alongside our National Youth Championship (NYC) teams. This was a valuable opportunity for our players and coaches to refine their preparation and take on-board high-level feedback ahead of competition.
Across all three days, the workshops highlighted the importance of building stronger, more connected coaching pathways in WA. The interactive format encouraged discussion, collaboration, and knowledge sharing between participants, creating a positive environment for learning and development.
We would like to thank all the coaches who attended, along with Jason for his time and commitment across the weekend. Events like this play a vital role in ensuring our players and teams are supported by confident, skilled, and passionate coaches at every level of the game.
We look forward to continuing to build on this momentum and providing further development opportunities throughout the season.
