Momentum is building towards the next summer Touch Football season, and August is packed with exciting tournaments across the country. Headlined by the return of the Metro Cup, here are some of the key events happening in the Touch Footy world this month. 

 

BMTA Metro Cup Commences

8 August (Every Friday) 

The Metro Cup pits the best Touch Football talent in Queensland’s southeast region against each other, over three epic months of action. The 2024 season was one for the history books, headlined by Redlands Touch's improbable victory in the Men’s Premier division. 

Contested every Friday night, two games each week will be made available to watch live and free on the BMTA Touch YouTube channel.

Queensland Touch Regional Secondary All Schools 

In the lead up to this year’s Queensland All Schools event in October, several regional carnivals will take place throughout the Sunshine State. Each event is open to secondary school teams of their respective region and provides valuable opportunities for teams and players to develop their skills in the lead-up to the big event in October. The following carnivals will be held in August: 

  • South West Queensland: August 3rd, Kearny’s Spring Sports, Complex, Toowoomba 
  • South Queensland Border Districts: August 7 – 8, Bill Norris Oval, Beenleigh 
  • North Queensland: August 9 – 10, Greenwood Park, Kirwan, Townsville 
  • Sunshine Coast: August 10th, Caboolture Touch Fields 
  • Brisbane: August 15 – 17, Somerfields, Dunn Road, Rocklea 
  • Central Queensland: August 29th, Rockhampton

NSW Touch Association All Schools Carnivals 

The NSW Touch Association All Schools Carnival provides opportunities for emerging Touch Football prospects to develop their skills within the school system. Schools and students from differing school systems now have the opportunity to compete against each other. Several carnivals will be held across the state over the upcoming winter months, with finals to be held in September. The following carnivals will be held in August:   

  • Sydney Metro West: August 19th, Kingsway Playing Fields, Werrington 
  • Sydney Metro East (Year 7/8): August 21st, Gwawley Park, Taren Point 
  • Sydney Metro East (Year 9/10): August 22nd, Gwawley Park, Taren Point
