Touch Football Australia (TFA) has today announced a $5,000 donation to support individuals and families impacted by last month’s severe flooding across the Mid-North Coast and Hunter regions of New South Wales.
This contribution adds to the $845 generously raised by the Touch Football community at The Championships held in Coffs Harbour in late May.
The Mid-North Coast holds special significance for TFA, with a long-standing partnership that has established the region as the spiritual home of Touch Football. The Championships (formerly known as the National Touch League) have been held in Coffs Harbour twenty-five times out of the twenty-nine events staged, a testament to the venue’s legacy in the sport.
The region’s C.ex Coffs International Stadium and its surrounds also host the DoorDash National Youth Championships (NYC) and, more recently, the Touch Football State of Origin series between NSW Touch Association (NSWTA) and QLD Touch Football (QTF).
Just south in Port Macquarie, the NSWTA State Cup also brings thousands of players, officials, and supporters to the region each year. These major events generate significant economic activity for the Mid-North Coast and highlight the strength of the Touch Football community across the region, including clubs like the Northern Eagles, who were directly impacted by the recent flooding.
TFA Chief Executive Officer, Marcus Ashcroft praised the support from the Touch Football community and the generosity shown in a time of hardship.
"Our game is built on our community, and the support during these difficult times becomes even more important," Ashcroft said.
"We're proud to play a small part in the efforts to help those impacted across the Mid-North Coast and Hunter regions get back on their feet and thank our community for showing the spirit of Touch Football in these times."
The funds have been directed through GIVIT, a national non-profit organisation and trusted government partner that connects donors with those in need through more than 5,000 charity and community service providers across Australia.
GIVIT ensures that 100% of publicly donated funds go directly toward purchasing essential items and services for those experiencing hardship. These include clean clothing, essential groceries, bedding, and household repairs. Wherever possible, GIVIT also sources these goods locally, supporting small businesses and helping boost local communities as they recover.
