Touch Football Australia (TFA) is proud to be partnering with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) to deliver our inaugural National Referee Workshop on Thursday, 17 July 2025 at 7:00pm AEST.
The workshop will be delivered by the ASC’s Senior Officiating Advisor Brooke Kneebush, who will be joined by TFA’s National Upgrade and Development Lead, Ken Golden. TFA is proud to align with the Modern Approach to Officiating and launch our Referee Workshops to support the development of our community of Referees.
Workshop Purpose
The workshop addresses four key objectives:
- Increasing awareness of the Modern Approach to Coaching and Officiating and TFA’s new Referee Education and Development Framework
- Demonstrating effective approaches to supporting officials in practice through coaching and mentoring
- Introducing practical models that enable referee coaches to provide developmental support
- Develop coaching conversation skills that facilitate learning, growth, and goal-oriented action
Three Core Models
Participants will learn three evidence-based coaching frameworks:
The Tell-Ask Continuum: Helps coaches understand when to provide direct instruction versus facilitating discovery through questioning.
Powerful Questions Framework: Teaches the art of asking questions that unlock thinking, promote self-reflection, and guide referees toward solutions.
GRIP Model: A structured approach to objective observation and reflective feedback conversational skills covering Goals, Reflection, Input, and Planning.
The workshop features hands-on breakout sessions where participants can practice GRIP conversations around realistic referee development scenarios, including challenging match situations, performance discussions, and confidence-building conversations.
