Dear Championships Participants,
We want to provide you with an important update regarding the upcoming Championships, scheduled for 30th May to 1st June in Coffs Harbour.
As many of you are aware, recent weather in Coffs Harbour has been extremely wet, and at this stage, the fields are currently not playable. Rain is expected to continue on Thursday and Friday this week, but the forecast is much more favourable from Saturday 24th May onwards, with little to no rain expected.
Touch Football Australia (TFA) will be meeting with Stadium and Council staff at 11am this Friday to assess field conditions and explore all available options. These stakeholders are responsible for managing venue access, and we’ll be working closely with them to determine the best path forward.
We want to be clear that the safety and well-being of players, coaches, managers, officials, staff, and spectators is TFA’s top priority. That will always come first in our decision-making. At the same time, we are 100% committed to doing everything we can to ensure this event goes ahead and that we provide the best possible experience for all involved.
We understand that many of you have concerns about travel and accommodation costs should the worst-case scenario occur. We want to reiterate that the previous postponement was due to a severe weather event (cyclone), and while conditions have been wet, the forecast during the tournament is currently dry. At this stage, TFA is under the belief there is a realistic path forward and will continue to work with Council and Stadium staff to manage the fields effectively.
We would also like to extend our sympathies to all those who have been affected by the recent weather in NSW. Our thoughts are with the communities managing the impact of these challenging conditions.
We will provide a written update to all registered participants following Friday’s meeting, which will include more detailed information about next steps, timelines for further decisions, and when you can expect the next communication.
We appreciate your patience and support as we work through these challenges and remain focused on delivering a successful event.
Warm regards,
Touch Football Australia
