Touch Football WA is thrilled to announce a new event proposal for next year: the Unity Cup.
The Unity Cup is a proposed event to celebrate the many cultures that make up Touch Football here in WA. Following a similar design to the Harmony Cup conducted by NRLWA this event will use the sport of Touch Football to bring our participants together to represent their cultural heritage in a community sport-based format.
The below considerations have been put forward to assist in the potential conduction of this event in 2025.
- Location: UWA Sports Park, Mt Claremont
- Date: Sunday, March 30th, 2025
- Duration: 1 day event
- Eligibility: Following the Federation of International Touch eligibility guidelines, players must be representing of cultural heritage through grandparents, parents, place of birth, or marriage. Once a player has chosen and participated for a culture that they wish to represent, they will not be permitted to play for another culture unless given permission by TFWA.
- Competition Format:
- 4 v 4 Touch Football [Fast 4] – 8th Edition Rules – Maximum number of players per team is twelve (12)
- 8-minute Games (CoE – 120 minutes of Touch Football permitted per day ~ 15 games max)
- Field Dimensions – 50m (length) x 35m (width) [half a standard Touch Football field]
- Mixed – 2 Male/2 Female players on field at any time (with the potential to expand to single gender competitions)
- Competitive Division and Social Division
- Pools if required
- Round Games – Quarters/Playoffs – Semis – Grand Final or Placement Games e.g. 1st v 2nd, 3rd v 4th…
- Uniform – Uniform must be ordered through a licensed apparel supplier e.g. Struddys, Inferno, ISC… and approved by TFWA.
- Side Activities: cultural performances – centralised stage for dance, music, or other groups to showcase cultural talent; culturally specific food and drink options.
