October is one of the biggest months on the Touch Football calendar, with plenty of events throughout the country. From massive Touch Football carnivals to the commencement of league competition, here’s everything happening in the month ahead.  

 

Western Australia LiveLighter Super League Series

Commences 4 October 

Western Australia’s most elite Touch Football competition taps off next month, with divisions available for Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Open sides. In 2023, ARKS (Mixed Open), Perth Brothers (Women’s Open), and Fremantle Rebels (Men’s) were each crowned champions of their respective divisions. How will things shape up in 2024?

Queensland All Schools

2 – 6 October 

Annually held each October, the Queensland All Schools is one of the largest Touch Football tournaments in the world, with over 530 teams competing in 2023. An event dating back to 1983, the five-day tournament will see over 7,200 students take the field, with over 1,800 games expected to be played. In 2024m the carnival heads to the Gold Coast Performance Centre in Runaway Bay with divisions held for U18, U15, and U13 divisions.

NSW Vawdon Cup

Commences 11 October 

The Vawdon Cup is a weekly competition conducted throughout the Sydney Metropolitan area, offering divisions for Open and Youth teams. Following a recent forum held with Vawdon Cup Affiliates, a new format will be introduced in 2024. The revamped competition will see games follow a thirty-minute touchdown turnaround format. It will also include a double-header round over the first two weekends and a tripleheader round, which will take place on a Sunday later in the season.

NSW Country Championships

12 – 13 October 

The Country Championships is a representative event contested by NSW Country Affiliates. The tournament is a traditional stepping stone for regional Touch talent striving for representative opportunities. A highlight of the NSW Touch annual calendar, this year’s edition will be held in the coastal city of Wollongong. Various divisions will be contested including Opens, Mixed, and Masters categories.

Touch Football South Australia League

Commences 13 October 

The state's premier Touch Football competition, the Touch Football South Australia (TFSA) League is set to commence this month, with finals scheduled for December. Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed divisions will be contested, with four permits represented; Central Scorpions, Eastern Stingrays, Northern Vipers, and South West Wolves.

School Sport Australia Touch Football Championships

20 – 25 October 

Since its founding in 1981, School Sport Australia (SSA) has been responsible for fostering and promoting school sports across the country. Part of their programs includes the running of interstate competitions at both Primary and Secondary levels including Touch Football. This year, the event will be held at Redlands Touch with divisions for Boys and Girls in 12s and 15s age groups contested.

Queensland Regional Primary All Schools Events

Following on from the Sunshine Coast Primary All Schools event, two more tournaments are set to be held throughout other regions of the Sunshine State.  

The following events will be held throughout October. 

  • South West Queensland Primary All Schools: 13 October, TBC Location
  • Brisbane Primary All Schools: 19-20 October, JF O’Grady Memorial Park, Fairfield
