Touch Football Australia (TFA) Hall of Famer Tony Trad has spent last weekend in Adelaide delivering a Talent Coach course and a Coaching Workshop to members of the South Australian touch football community. Demonstrating his commitment to elevating the quality of coaching in our sport, Tony who boasts over 100 test caps for the Australian Emus was front and centre has he shared his insights on the game as a whole and how these coaches can deliver growth within their Affiliate environments.
The Talent Coach course, with an intimate setting of six participants, was a deep dive into the finer nuances of nurturing talented players in our game. Tony's decades of experience shone through as he guided each participant through a modern approach to the course with sessions focused on identifying potential, developing player skills, and instilling the mindset required for competitive success. Each coach was given the opportunity to share their experiences and challenges, creating a collaborative atmosphere where real-world scenarios were addressed. Tony’s unique ability to offer practical advice based on his own experiences challenged coaches to think critically about their methods.
In a first for our Alliance States, Tony also delivered an open Coaching Workshop to players, referees and coaches within the SA touch community. Tony’s session was designed to accommodate participants at varying levels of experience, offering something valuable to every attendee regardless of their current experience levels. Through interactive discussions and on-field practical demonstrations Tony explored some of the key elements of our game and provided a modern spin on coaching.
What made the workshop truly special is the informal nature and sense of camaraderie among attendees from multiple disciplines in the sport, including STAC member and leading referee Amanda Sheeky who recently ranked as number 1 female in the world at the 2024 FIT Touch World Cup. Tony’s knowledge and expertise was pivotal in guiding the discussions and knowledge exchange, ensuring that the insights gained during the workshop can be applied to the game at all levels. TFSA STAC Chair Deirdre Morrow was pleased with outcomes on the weekend saying “how awesome was it to have Trady here on the weekend presenting. For our SA community to benefit from his wealth of knowledge and insights into the game while also upskilling our coaches will benefit our whole touch footy community!”
Tony’s visit has provided the SA touch community with new tools, fresh perspectives, and the confidence to deliver sessions in our community to enhance the experience of participants and grow the sport.
