Emus World Cup Results: Day 5 (July 19)
The pointy end of the World Cup is approaching with several Athelite Australian Emus squads advancing to the final stages in their divisions – with the Men’s 55s the first to advance to their Gold Medal match.
Australia booked their place in the Grand Final in the Men’s 55s division by overcoming New Zealand 10-1. Their opponent in the Gold Medal match will be determined in a Preliminary Final match between their Trans-Tasman rivals and host nation England.
A host of other divisions continue their campaign at the World Cup after advancing to the Semi-Finals tomorrow – including the Men’s 35s, Men’s 45s, Men’s 50s, Women’s 35s, and Women’s 40s - with the Men's 45s and 50s also having a potential Grand Final berth tomorrow should they proceed. Other divisions continue to compete in their pool matches ahead of finals.
The try-scoring feats of the Australian contingent also continue, with Mal Kenny scoring nine tries in two games in the Men’s Open. Five players in the Women’s Open scored hat-tricks on Day Five, with Bella Slattery, Danielle Norman, Lucia Fildes, Ash Kearney, and Tiarni Bryce etching their names on the scoresheet.
