WC Day 2

Day Two of the World Cup welcomed the rest of our Athelite Australian Emu squads in their opening pool games – coming away with strong wins as a plethora of players scored in their international debut.

Australia started their Open’s campaign with a good start against the Philippines in the Mixed Open – with Kai Simbolon and Mackenzie Davis scoring in their debut. The Emus continued to show their attacking strength in the Men’s and Women’s Open divisions, including Rachel Walsh scoring six tries in a 19-0 win over Wales.

The Masters divisions saw nineteen Emus score three or more tries in their pool matches, including James Sharp, making his debut in the Men’s 30s division, scoring seven tries over two games. The Women’s 35s came away with a clean sheet in defence, and the Men’s 50s saw Steve Menzies and Cristin Davidson score ten tries between them.

Then Men’s 55s also took the field for the first time for Australia at a World Cup – with David Cheung scoring to take his World Cup try tally to 50.

Current pool standings are listed below.
