We headed to the mid - west coastal city, Geraldton this month to speak to President and Life Member of Geraldton Touch Football Association, Lauren Norris.

Lauren had never heard of Touch Football until she started playing 15 years ago. She had given up dancing, but wanted to keep fit and try something new. Her partner and his siblings had been playing for a few years and he suggested she try our sport out. After a few practice sessions and some attempts to explain the rules he convinced her to join a social team. After her first season she was hooked, she joined the committee and completed a referee course and has been playing ever since.

It is always nerve racking starting a new sport, especially when you are unfamiliar with the rules and have no clue how to play, she commented. Upon Lauren's reflection of her first introduction to Touch Football, she said she walked into a warm welcoming environment where everyone was helpful and inclusive. She could see how passionate the volunteers and committee members were about our sport and wanted to see it grow in Geraldton, which it has consistently done year after year.

Her goal as President for Geraldton Touch Football Association is to continue to grow our sport in Geraldton while preserving that welcoming, inclusive family feeling for everyone that is new to our sport.

She commented that she has met some amazing Touch Football players from across the state and said how truly special it is to have the ability to step into any club across WA (and even beyond) and be embraced with open arms for a game.

Lauren finished our conversation by saying how Touch Football is such a fun, social sport for all ages and abilities and how she hopes to be involved in our sport for a long time to come. She has made lifelong friendships not only in Geraldton, but across WA and that is what she loves about Touch Football.

Since joining our sport Lauren has achieved the following:

2016 - Represented South Australia at NTLs.
2020 - Awarded Life Membership of Geraldton Touch Football Association.
2021 - Became President of the Geraldton Touch Football Association.
2023 - Hosted the inaugural Country Championships tournament as President of the Geraldton Touch Football Association.
