RON MEDAL HERO (1)

Newly appointed Women’s Open captain, Kimberly Sue See and Men’s Open stalwart Jonathan Palau have been named Ron Hanson Medallists ahead of the 2023 Opens Trans-Tasman Test Series.

The Ron Hanson Medal was introduced by Touch Football Australia in 2010 to honour Australian flagbearers appointed for Open and Masters international tournaments. Named after Australia’s first Touch Football captain, Ron Hanson, the medal is awarded to individuals who possess excellent values, leadership and humility.

Both Palau and Sue See were humbled by the recognition.

"It’s a great privilege and honour to receive this medal and carry the flag on behalf of our country.” Sue See said.

Palau echoing the statement.

“I definitely wasn’t expecting this and to look back at all those that have had this honour in the past it’s a massive honour to join this list.” Palau added.

Sue See first represented Australia at the 2013 Youth Trans-Tasman Test Series. She made her Opens debut in the Emus Women’s Open Team a year later at the 2014 Trans-Tasman Test Series as an 18-year-old. Kim has since been an integral member of the Australian Women’s Open Team for the past four Trans-Tasman Series and the 2015 and 2019 Federation of International Touch World Cups.

Palau is a veteran of the Men’s Open team playing an integral role since 2011. He has represented Australia at three World Cups – 2011, 2015 and 2019 and four Trans-Tasman Test Series between 2012-17.

Leading Australian referee Amanda Sheeky was also announced as a Flag Bearer of the refereeing contingent, adding another achievement to her World Cup appointments and host of domestic awards.

The 2023 Opens Trans-Tasman Test Series begins tomorrow at Whites Hill Reserve, Brisbane. Entry is free, or for those outside of Brisbane available to watch live and free via Kayo Sport.
