Emus Article

Touch Football Australia (TFA) is proud to announce our PainAway Australian Emus youth teams ahead of the Asia Pacific Youth Touch Cup (APYTC) in Brisbane this May.

The tournament will be the first time our youth teams have played since the 2020 Youth Trans-Tasman in Newcastle, with all six teams featuring a host of emerging talent.

Whilst our teams predominately feature debutants, there are a few familiar faces making a return, including Jardel Bob and Kiiahla Duff who will represent Australia in the 20s Boys and Girls teams, having also been named in the Men’s and Women’s Opens Trans-Tasman teams respectively.

TFA CEO Jamie O’Connor welcomed the announcement of the PainAway Australian Emus youth teams.

“I’m excited that our youth athletes will finally have the opportunity to pull on the green and gold after the disruption of the past few years. There’s some tremendous talent across all these teams and I’m looking forward to witnessing the next generation of athletes represent their country on home soil.

It is vital for the development of the international game that we see our youth athletes back representing their countries and we can’t wait to welcome players from across the Asia Pacific region to Brisbane.”

The APYTC is being held in response to the cancellation of the 2021 Youth World Cup and will feature youth teams from across the Southern Hemisphere in 18s and 20s divisions.

The event is being held at Whites Hill Reserve, home of the Brisbane Metropolitan Touch Association from 12-14 May.

The event is supported by Brisbane Economic Development Agency and the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland, and features on the It’s Live! in Queensland and Brisbane Major events calendar.
