Emus Article

Touch Football Australia (TFA) is proud to announce our PainAway Australian Emus Mixed, Women’s and Men’s Opens teams ahead of the 2023 Opens Trans-Tasman Test Series in Brisbane this April.

Playing for the first time since their 2019 FIT Touch World Cup glories in Kuala Lumpur, and on home soil for the first time since the 2017 Open Trans-Tasman event, it’s a vastly different line-up from those who took the field in Malaysia, with 24 players making their debut across the three teams.

TFA CEO Jamie O’Connor welcomed the announcement.

“This has been a long-time coming; it has been six years since we have played on home soil at an Opens level. After the challenges of the pandemic, we’re relieved that international Touch Football can finally resume. There are plenty of fresh faces in our line ups and I am really excited to see them represent their country in front of their family and friends. It will be great to reignite old rivalries and to welcome old friends back to Brisbane.” O’Connor said.

The Opens Trans-Tasman Test Series is widely regarded as the pinnacle of international fixtures outside of the Touch World Cup, and will be bigger than ever before, with the inclusion of Japanese teams, setting up an enthralling tri-series between the top three ranked touch football nations.

The 2023 Open Trans-Tasman Test Series is being held at Whites Hill Reserve, home of the Brisbane Metropolitan Touch Association from 21-23 April. The event is supported by Brisbane Economic Development Agency and the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland, and features on the It’s Live! in Queensland and Brisbane Major events calendar.
