TFA Cold Climate Classic 2022 1 Hero Image

The Cold Climate Classic (CCC) is fast approaching and it’s unlike any usual tournament, so we’ve taken the opportunity to preview what you can expect at this unique food, wine and Touch Footy extravaganza.

Held in the picturesque Northwest Tasmanian town of Devonport, a short left to right pass away from Mersey Bluff, the CCC combines a food and wine festival with a social Touch Footy tournament.

The event offers a jammed packed itinerary of gastronomical delights an opportunity to experience internationally acclaimed Tasmanian produce and breathtaking scenery.

Let’s check out some of the highlights.

Friday 28th October

The weekend commences on Friday evening with a leisurely steam train ride for all participants and their partners on the beautiful Don River Railway taking in the sights from Coles Beach to The Don River Rail Museum. Upon arrival to the museum guests will enjoy a welcome function and sampling of great food & wine from Tasmania’s Northwest region, plus live entertainment from a local music duo.

At the end of the welcome function guests will jump on buses to be transported back to Devonport to either rest before the start of the Cold Climate Classic or to enjoy some of Devonport’s renowned local pubs and bars.

Saturday 29th October

The social Touch Footy taps off at Meercroft Park in the heart of Devonport on Saturday which provides views directly over Bass Strait that mainland Touch players can only dream of.

In between matches, players and spectators can enjoy and sample local Tasmanian food and wine from a variety of on-site vendors attending as part of ‘The Forage’ which is running in conjunction with this year’s Cold Climate Classic.

Saturday night is an opportunity for participants to discover and sample some of the quality local restaurants in and around Devonport at your own pace. Some of our favourite haunts include Firestorm Tacos, Frankie J's, Mrs Jones Restaurant, Verona Wine Bar and Prem's Seafood Bar & Grill.

For the adventurous head to the nearby town of Ulverstone and to Buttons Brewery for delicious dishes paired with hand crafted local beers.

If its amber, cider or perhaps a distilled liquor you’re after The Northwest abounds with great options which you can check out here: Eat + Drink - North West Tasmania. The only problem is finding time to fit them all in!

Sunday 30th October

Sunday will see the tournament continue and ultimately the champions crowned in all divisions. If that’s a thing? Afterall this event is more about the off field than on-field!

With Monday a Public Holiday in the Northwest what better excuse to explore more and indulge in some celebrating around town on Sunday night.

Monday 1st November

Why go home? You’re in the middle of one of the country’s best keep secrets, the Cradle Coast Wine Trail so take the time to explore some of these hidden gems. Or, if you fancy seeing more of the region Cradle Mountain is just 90 minutes away. If you’re still feeling active the world class Barnbougle Golf Links are within 2-hours’ drive and are a golfer’s holy grail.
