Lions WD1

The 2021 VT League Finals saw Touch Football Victoria’s premier sides take to Harold Caterson Reserve to vie for Division 1 and 2 titles.

The weather was as stunning as the Touch Football on display across the 4 divisions of play. At the end of the day, Melbourne City Lions took home the VT League Club Championship for the 7th consecutive time.

The Lions won the Women’s Division 1 title, defeating Harlequin Touch, with Captain and Player of the Match Leah Percy scoring 3 times.

The Women’s Division 2 title was won by Lions in an incredibly tight contest with Melbourne University Blacks, with Amy Watkins scoring right on the buzzer to secure a win after both sides were deadlocked for most of the second half.

The Lions also took out the Men’s Division 2 title in a tense affair, defeating Melbourne Phoenix 8 – 6, with Vinnie Nepia scoring 3 to help seal the victory.

Lions also made the Men’s Division 1 final, however the title was taken out by Monash Vikings in ruthless fashion, putting 14 tries past the Lions, several of these were scored by Josh Leota, was was unimpeachable as Player of the Men’s Division 1 final.

Touch Football Victoria would like to thank the following:

  • Melbourne City Lions and Moorabbin Rams Rugby Club for getting the facility ready to host the finals day on short notice. All in attendance would agree that a superb day was had.
  • Out other hosts throughout the competition, Harlequin Touch Club for hosting the first two weeks of competition, and Brimbank City Council for allowing us to take the 4th weekend of play to Deer Park, and the many volunteers whose tireless efforts elevated the VT League to a new level in 2021.
  • All 6 VT League clubs for getting sides together and on the park in a very short window post our 6th COVID lockdown, and for making the competition work as well as it did in such a condensed window
  • Our referees, who we often overlook but play just an important part in keeping the competition going as players and volunteers.
