Yitss Brothers Hero

Touch Football was the winner on a glorious day at Harlequin Club as the Youth in Touch Super Series reached its conclusion on Saturday after a 5 week tournament.

22 junior teams from across Melbourne and nearby regional towns participated in Under 12, Under 14 and Under 18 divisions in a great show of resilience following Melbourne’s incredibly long and bleak COVID Lockdowns.

The day started with the Under 18 final, with the Chympie Lepoards proving too good for our tournament hosts, prevailing 6 tries to 1.

The Under 12 Girls final was taken out by Galaxy, defeating Elwood 6-3 in a game the referees described as “amazingly fun”.

The next final saw Melbourne Kiwi’s Under 14 boys put on a clinical display defeating Harlequins 14-2, a just reward for the dominant team of the competition.

The last final of the day saw a passionate affair between two relative newcomers to Touch Football, the Under 12’s from Iron Armour Academy and Melbourne Brothers playing out a fantastic match with Brothers prevailing 9-5 at the end.

5 players were also awarded with Spirit of Touch awards, which not only recognised the players who performed well throughout the 5 weeks of competition, but also reflected on the players’ on field demeanour and effort put in on a week to week basis. The winners of these awards received a Youth in Touch gift bag, including gift vouchers and Youth in Touch swag.

Touch Football Victoria would like to thank all teams, clubs and referees who participated in the tournament. It’s a massive credit to all involved that such a successful tournament was able to be put together with a 2 week turnaround post the easing of restrictions allowing junior sport.

A massive that you also to the Youth in Touch program, who’s attractions and chillout zone provided a brief respite from the heat for the players. Youth in Touch is much more than Touch Football. The Youth in Touch program is about engaging youth in physical activity, having fun and challenging all of their skills.
