The 2020 National Youth Championships (NYC) will be held on the Sunshine Coast on revised dates – from Wednesday 30th September to Saturday 3rd October, during the Queensland school holidays.

The tournament, run by Touch Football Australia (TFA) in partnership with Sunshine Coast Council, will take place at its usual location, Sunshine Coast Stadium, Bokarina.

This year the event will not incorporate the National Schools Cup (NSC) due to the impacts of COVID-19 on representative sport in schools; though for the first time, Girls and Boys Under-12s, U14s and U16s divisions will be included, as well as the regular U18s.

TFA was pleased with the overwhelming response from teams submitting expressions of interest for nominating to take part in the event.

TFA CEO Jamie O’Connor said the event will be run in accordance with TFA’s Return-to-Play Guidelines and Protocols, which Mater Director of Infectious Diseases Dr Paul Griffin helped develop for a safe return to the sport.

“As well as a range of hygiene measures, teams will be urged to ‘get in, play, and get out’ and to spend the downtime between games exploring the beautiful Sunshine Coast and the many terrific attractions it has to offer,” he said.

“The event will be an excellent opportunity to help with kickstarting the local economy while also getting our juniors back on the field again.”

Sunshine Coast Council is looking forward to hosting Australia’s best young Touch Footballers for the event, particularly during this year when Australians have really missed both sport and travel.
