The NRL has invited female Touch Football athletes to be part of the NRL Women's Rugby League National Championship on the Gold Coast. While touch athletes played an exhibition match at the Championship in 2018, this year will feature a best-of-three Women’s Rugby League 9s tournament played by Touch Football athletes in front of NRLW selectors on the Gold Coast.

If you are a female touch football player who is interested in the contact form of the game and becoming an NRLW player, you are invited to apply to join one of two exclusive touch-player teams.

Maddie Studdon will work in consultation with the NSW Touch Association, and Chelsea Baker with Queensland Touch Football, to select Touch players for the NSW ‘Studdon Stars’ team and the QLD ‘Baker Breakers’ team.

Over three days total, these Touch players will be given tackle-safe coaching, then the NSW team will be coached by Cliff Lyons, and the QLD team by Scott Prince, before they go up against each other in a game of 9-a-side rugby league.

This Touch players’ tournament will help showcase the remarkable talent of female Touch players at this significant NRLW tournament, help highlight the partnership between the two sports, and help provide a pathway from Touch to NRLW, as well as being a fantastic three-day experience. To support this, the NRL will be assisting the selected Touch players with travel, accommodation, insurance, uniforms and other costs associated with this initiative.

Expressions of Interest must be submitted by 11pm, Sunday 14th April 2019.
