Australia has claimed a 3-0 division win at the 2014 Super Trans Tasman Series after the Australian Women’s Open team defeated New Zealand 6-4 in the third and deciding match.
NZ wins final Mixed match
New Zealand has claimed the final Mixed Open match in the dying seconds, with Australia claiming the series 2-1.
Australia led 5-4 with minutes remaining before two quick touchdowns in the final minute, the second of which was scored as the siren sounded, saw New Zealand take the game 6-5.
It was a low scoring first half with New Zealand’s Tina Ashworth opening the accounts for her side five minutes in.
Two touchdowns, to Kristy Brennan and Scott Bundy, gave Australia a 2-1 lead at the half-time break before Mortimer scored her second touchdown of the game.
Clayton Ngawharau and Kristy Brennan traded touchdowns, with Australia holding a 5-4 lead with six minutes remaining before New Zealand scored twice in the closing stages of the game to run away with the game.
Congratulations to Australia on their 2-1 series win.

Australia Claims Women’s Open Series
Australia has claimed a 3-0 division win at the 2014 Super Trans Tasman Series after the Australian Women’s Open team defeated New Zealand 6-4 in the third and deciding match.
The Australians claimed the series 2-1 after winning the first match and going down in game two.
Australia scored three touchdowns before New Zealand was able to get on the board and took at 4-1 lead into half-time.
Both sides exchanged touchdowns in the second half but it was the one scored by Australian captain Louise Winchester that sealed the win for Australia and gave the teams a 3-0 series whitewash.

Australia clean sweeps the Men’s division
The Australian Men’s Open team has capped off an impressive weekend with a 10-6 win over New Zealand in game three to the series.
After going down to New Zealand 2-1 in New Zealand last year, the team finished this series undefeated, winning 3-0.
New Zealand opened the scoring first through Ned Walters but in the next set Australian winger, Matthew Prowse tied the scores up.
Sam Brisby made it 2-1 before a show-and-go from Matt Tope put Australia up by two.
Australia scored four of the next six touchdowns to lead 7-3 at the break.
Both teams exchanged touchdowns in the second half and the score was 9-7 before Dylan Hennessey, who had another superb series, was rewarded with a touchdown as the siren sounded to make it 10-7.
