It wasn’t that long ago that Australian Mixed Open squad member Adam Pryde was taking to the fields at Queensland Junior State Cup events as a player and now he is back to teach Queensland’s next generation of stars a thing or two.

Pryde is coaching the Redland’s 18’s Boys team at the 2013 Queensland Junior State Cup event in Hervey Bay.

Pryde was named in Touch Football Australia’s National Training Squad for the first time last month, and is this weekend teaching his side some of the things he has learnt along the way.

For Pryde, the opportunity to progress through with the Redland’s side after their 16’s Boys win last year was an exciting prospect that he wanted to pursue.

“In my last year (of playing) I got asked to help them out at 16’s and we managed to do pretty well, we won the 16’s last year so I thought I’d stick with them for 18’s,” Pryde said.

Pryde is enjoying his time on the sideline as a coach, saying that there are many comparisons to playing.

“The thing that I enjoy about coaching is the same thing as playing, just being involved with mates, I’ve made some good friends out of it and helping people learn the things that I’ve been taught.”

Pryde’s inclusion in the Mixed Open National Training Squad follows his involvement in the Australian 18’s Boys team in 2011 and the Australian 20’s Boys team in the 2013 Super Trans Tasman Series earlier this year.

There are plenty of new faces in the Mixed Open squad who will be looking to claim the Trans Tasman trophy back from New Zealand in April next year, and Pryde is looking forward to the challenge of making the team.

“I’m very excited, it was a real big surprise, I didn’t really expect it so I’ve got a lot of training to do now.”

“There’s quite a few from our 20’s Boys team, so that’s pretty good.”
