South Australia’s 12’s, 15’s and 18’s players, as well as members of the SA Heat Elite, took to the fields at City Touch in Adelaide in preparation for their upcoming national events, the School Sport Australia Nationals (12’s and 15’s) and the National Youth Championships (18’s).

Australian Women’s Open coach, Kerry Norman, returned for a second year for the weekend, and was joined by Touch Football Australia’s High Performance Manager, Wayne Grant, and Australian Women’s Open assistant coach Micheal Lovett. Australian World Cup champions Emilee Cherry (Women’s), Nick Good (Men’s) and Sarah Spacie (Mixed) also travelled to Adelaide to attend the weekend.

And it wasn’t just the kids that enjoyed themselves, with the Australian representatives having just as much fun.

“It was so much fun, I’m a big kid myself,” Cherry said.

“It was a really good weekend, the kids were really lovely.”

“We were saying, we were giving to the kids, but we also got back ourselves as well. It’s really good to give back.”

It’s the second year that Touch Football South Australia has held its AusSquad weekend, and Touch Football Australia’s National Sport Development Coordinator, Adam Raptis, says that the involvement of South Australia in the program has been fantastic.

“The South Australian athletes and coaches have had the opportunity to learn from the best players and coaches in Australia, and I really think these benefits will be seen not only in the short term, at the NYC and SSA nationals, but in the future as well,” Raptis said.
