This week North Queensland held a Junior Development Clinic for 55 Townsville based players at Queens Park, North Ward. The clinic emphasised the basic principles of Touch Football with the main aim to ensure that everyone was getting involved.
The clinic was facilitated by Queensland Touch Development Officers Glen Richardson (North Queensland) and Mark Jansson (South Queensland). Glen (Richo) Richardson said, “It was a real bonus to have Mark in attendance, he has over 20 years experience in the sport and is also a current State of Origin player in the Queensland Senior Team”.
The clinic developed the finer points of catching, passing and the place ball. Sub unit skills were also worked on with modified games giving the participant the opportunity to practice the skills learnt.
Mark (Janno) Jansson was suitably impressed, “I wasn’t sure how much the kids were going to learn, however after watching them in the games this afternoon I can see that they are starting to implement the things that we were teaching”.
“The clinic appears to be a real success and North Queensland will look to expand on this concept next year”, said Richardson.
Special thanks go to Sportscene Super Warehouse - Cairns, Packer Ryder Home Loan Services, Townsville Castle Hill Touch Association and to Mark Jansson from South Queensland Border Districts for their support.
