45 Teams from around Queensland will contest the Inaugural Queensland Primary Schools Touch All Schools Championships at Redlands Touch Association on 11-12 November 2006.

Queensland Touch, in conjunction with QPST, is hosting the participation event which will be contested across 3 Divisions comprising Boys 12 Years, Girls 12 Years, and Mixed 12 Years.

Queensland Touch Events Member Services Officer Gary Madders is thrilled with the response to the Inaugural Event.

"This is a new event which has not been on the Junior calendar previously, and with only a very limited time frame of six weeks the response from participating schools has been amazing." Madders said.

Jason Boyd, a Teacher and Touch enthusiast from Tingalpa Primary School, has been the driving force behind the tournament and has worked extremely hard to establish and organise the competition.

Teams will mostly represent schools in Education regions in the South East Queensland corner, with Sunshine Coast schools, Darling Downs,  and South West Queensland schools joining the Metropolitan Brisbane regional school areas, and South Coast region schools in fielding teams.

It is anticipated that the tournament will become a regular fixture on the Junior Touch Calendar in Queensland and as it becomes established, school teams from all over Queensland, including the Northern regions, will participate.

The Queensland Secondary Schools All Schools Championships began in 1984 with 34 teams, and in 2006 an amazing 206 schools attented the tournament that has become Queensland's most popular All Schools event in any sport, and made Touch the number one participant sport in the State.

With an impressive 45 teams entered in the Inaugural QPST All Schools championships, the potential of this tournament to grow in every facet and eventually boast similar numbers to the Secondary tournament in the future is a very real prospect and  augurs well for the state of the game in our Junior ranks in Queensland.

Referees are still required and information regarding the tournament can be obtained by going to the Queensland  School Sport website   http://www.schoolsport.qld.edu.au or by contacting Championship Convenor Gary Madders on (07) 34204646 or Championship Co-Convenor Jason Boyd jboyd5@eq.edu.au
