The Glasshouse Mountains were last weekend inundated with a record number of teams and young touch players for the 2004 Queensland Junior State Cup.

Over 97 junior teams from around Queensland participated in the event, travelling from as far north as Rockhampton, as far west as Chinchilla and Toowoomba and south from Ballina.

The local Sunshine Coast Region was well represented with 28 teams attending, including representatives from Maleny Witta, Caboolture, Hervey Bay, Kingaroy, Noosa, Kawana and the host venue Glasshouse Mountains.

Gold Coast and Brisbane once again dominated the finals day, winning all major finals except the Under 11 boys, which was won by Hervey Bay.

Several local teams from the Sunshine Coast Region also performed well, including Caboolture, Hervey Bay and Maleny Witta, claiming Plate final titles and making many finals appearances.

Melanie Woosnam, Executive Officer of Queensland Touch, was extremely pleased with the success of the 2004 Junior State Cup.

"This is QTA's flagship event and is the most popular junior participation on the Queensland Touch calendar. It is great to see such a wide representation of teams from throughout Queensland. However, the QTA realise that this event would not be the success that it is without the support from the parents, coaches and managers and the wonderful band of volunteers that the sport so heavily relies upon," said Ms Woosnam.

The Junior State Cup is the largest participation event for Queensland junior association players and provides young players with the opportunity to compete in a fun atmosphere where participation and enjoyment are the key elements.

The Glasshouse Mountains Touch committee and the Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club did a fabulous job in preparing the venue for the sixth consecutive year proving the popularity of the Sunshine Coast.
