Regrading

Regrading

An Affiliate may decide to have a regrading process or decide to regrade a competition mid-season. There are a few ways your Affiliate can manage the grading or regrading process. These include:

Grading Period

The first 2-4 rounds of the competition are grading rounds. At the conclusion of the grading period teams are then placed in divisions which will ensure teams are evenly matched.

Regrade (down a division)

A team may request to be regraded due be being placed in a higher division than they are suited for. In most cases this will have no impact on divisions though it is imperative that the team moving divisions does not have any unfair advantage when qualifying for finals (Taking competition points with them to the new division).

Regrade (up a division)

A team may need to be regraded due be being placed in a lower division than they are suited for. In most cases this will have no impact on divisions though it is imperative that the team moving divisions does not have any unfair advantage when qualifying for finals (Taking competition points with them to the new division).

One Division which splits for finals

An affiliate may not have enough teams to warrant creating two different divisions. In this case employing a staggered finals series will ensure more teams participate in finals matches. Teams will also play against opponents which are closely matched. An example of this would be:

8 team competition – Top four playoff in Cup Finals 1v4 2v3. Bottom four play off in Plate Finals 5v8 6v7.

Which ever grading or regrading system your affiliate chooses to use it is important the system is transparent, and all teams are aware of any grading or regrading. Failure to notify teams & team contacts of grading or regrading can result in complaints from teams or teams choosing not to return the following season!
