TFSA League returned to City Touch for round two on Friday night.
In perfect conditions, the Eastern Stingrays produced the perfect game, a 20-0 rout of the South West Wolves in the Men’s Division. Eleven of the 12 Rays found there way onto the scoresheet in a victory that will be hard to surpass this season.
In the other Men’s game, the Northern Vipers bounced back from their round one loss beating the Central Scorpions 6-4. The Vipers took the early initiative to lead 4-2 at the break, holding out their opponents in a tough second half struggle.
The South West Wolves continued their unbeaten start in the Mixed Division defeating the Stingrays 5-3. While the Stingrays will be happy with another strong defensive effort, too many fundamental errors prevented them from scoring enough tries. Veterans Justin Neave and Ruth Shaw contributed three tries for the winners.
In the other game, Will Stewart and Toby Gabrisch lead the way for the Scorpions each going over three times in a 12-7 win.
The return of key players did not reverse the Vipers Women’s fortunes, the Scorpions recording a comfortable 6-2 victory. As in Round One, the Vipers lacked penetration and poise in attack, going scoreless in the first half. Esther Shegog and Ailene Heibner both scored twice for the winners.
A standout performance from Alice Gregory, allowed the South West Wolves to overcome a tenacious Eastern Stingrays. A half field try was the highlight of Gregory’s performance as the Wolves won a tight battle 5-3.
